Competition Redefined: The Sharing Economy

A competitive edge will highlight technology as a two-way communication medium, the shift toward consumer to consumer markets including house, car, and asset sharing; and the markets ability to capitalize upon this interaction. This idea is an unavoidable trend thus, businesses
have either leveraged this strategy to grow and increase their competitive advantage, or in the case of major corporations, altered their business practices in response to this phenomenon. The sharing economy has created the means for start-ups to capitalize and grow upon current trends, as well as challenged and showcased the resilience of dominant firms as they grow and adapt as well.

  • Ana Lopez, Third Year Queen's Commerce Student

“This past year’s tech panel was an incredible new addition to the conference- to which I owe my summer employment. While QBET is the oldest conference in the game, it’s never stale!”

  • Megan Leon, Second Year Queen's Commerce Student

“I was pushed to the limits at QBET 2014 during the merger mystery, where teams had to work not only with each other but also with their respective governments. I also had the opportunity to meet so many great people from Queen’s and from many other reputable Canadian Universities. QBET was my first conference of second year, and what a great start it was!”

  • Reid Stewart, Fourth Year Queen's Commerce Student

“I was very honoured to receive ‘The Lifetime Achievement Award’ at QBET 2014 this past year. QBET structures their conference in a way where it can keep up with the latest trends that are happening in the business world. Every year QBET has surprised me in bringing bigger and better things to the conference!”

Merger Mystery.

An exclusive QBET event in which delegates are given a specific character to play, and must make choices based on information provided throughout the different rounds. Although all characters and companies are fictional, roles and information used are based on actual mergers and acquisitions that have involved the sponsoring company. The merger is an exceptional way to learn about what is occurring in a unique industry, and show-off your problem solving skills. This event typically considered to be a favourite amongst delegates.

Live Case.

A fast-paced, and challenging event, our sponsored Case Competition will see delegates engaging in a management consulting simulation. This event kicks off with the presentation of a business problem to delegates, who will work in small teams to generate possible solutions. The delegates are then given the opportunity to present their best option to our judges, who will pick their favorite teams to go head to head in our final presentation round. A conference staple, our case competition is not to be missed.

Workshops.

Workshops are interactive presentations designed to introduce you to the sponsoring organizations. This event will provide you with a premium opportunity to interact with sponsors one-on-one because of the small delegate to sponsor ratio. Following workshops there will be a networking session where you will have the ability to follow-up with representatives from all sponsoring companies.
